Real Numbers क्या हैं? (Direct Answer)

वास्तविक संख्याएँ (Real Numbers) वे संख्याएँ हैं जिनमें सभी rational (परिमेय) और irrational (अपरिमेय) संख्याएँ शामिल होती हैं। Natural numbers (1, 2, 3…), Whole numbers (0, 1, 2…), Integers (-2, -1, 0, 1, 2…), Rational (½, ¾, 0.75), Irrational (√2, π, e) — सब real numbers हैं। Imaginary numbers (जैसे √-1) real नहीं हैं।

Key Concepts — Chapter 1 Real Numbers

1. Euclid’s Division Lemma (यूक्लिड का विभाजन प्रमेयिका)

Statement: अगर a और b कोई दो धनात्मक पूर्णांक हैं, तो unique integers q और r exist करते हैं ऐसे कि:

a = bq + r, जहाँ 0 ≤ r < b

यहाँ q = quotient (भागफल), r = remainder (शेषफल)। जब r = 0, तो b पूरी तरह से a को divide करता है।

2. Euclid’s Division Algorithm (HCF निकालने की विधि)

दो positive integers के HCF (H.C.F. / LCD) निकालने का algorithm:

  1. Division lemma apply करें: a = bq + r (a > b)
  2. अगर r = 0, तो HCF = b
  3. अगर r ≠ 0, तो b और r पर lemma apply करें
  4. इसी तरह repeat तब तक जब तक r = 0 न हो जाए
  5. Last non-zero remainder ही HCF है

867 = 255 × 3 + 102
255 = 102 × 2 + 51

3. Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic (अंकगणित का आधारभूत प्रमेय)

Statement: हर composite number को prime numbers के product के रूप में unique way में express किया जा सकता है (order के अलावा)।

Use: HCF और LCM निकालने के लिए prime factorization method।

Example: 6 = 2 × 3, 20 = 2² × 5
HCF(6, 20) = 2¹ = 2
LCM(6, 20) = 2² × 3 × 5 = 60
Check: HCF × LCM = 2 × 60 = 120 = 6 × 20 ✓

4. Irrational Numbers (अपरिमेय संख्याएँ)

जो संख्या p/q (where p, q integers और q ≠ 0) के form में express नहीं हो सकती। जैसे √2, √3, √5, π।

Proof by Contradiction — √2 is Irrational: मान लो √2 rational है, तो √2 = p/q (जहाँ p, q coprime)। Square करने पर 2q² = p²। तो p² even है, यानी p even है। Let p = 2m। तब 2q² = 4m², यानी q² = 2m², तो q² even, q भी even। But तब p और q दोनों में 2 common factor — coprime मान के against.   • Terminating decimal (सांत दशमलव): अगर denominator q का prime factorization सिर्फ 2 और/या 5 हो, जैसे 3/8 = 0.375
